Climbing the Charts to Equality: Sheer Publishing Africa Elevates Women in Music

Aug 20, 2024

Sheer Publishing Africa is a driving force in promoting gender equality in the music industry, continuously supporting and recognizing the accomplishments of female artists. With new signings like Anele Zondo and Khosi Ngema, we are ensuring that the future of African music is diverse, inclusive, and equitable.

The music industry has historically been male-dominated, but at Sheer Publishing Africa, we’re actively working to change this narrative. As Africa’s leading independent music publisher, we are committed to championing the next generation of female artists.

Our recent sponsorship of the ‘Songwriter of The Year’ award at the 2024 Basadi in Music Awards highlights our dedication to supporting women in the industry. Afro soul artist Brenda Mtambo received this prestigious award, symbolising the impact of our support.

In addition to awards, we continue to empower female creators by signing emerging talents like Anele Zondo and Khosi Ngema. Anele, also known as ‘Ney The Bae,’ is a vibrant rapper and television personality who recently debuted her EP. Khosi Ngema, best known for her role in Netflix’s “Blood and Water,” is a versatile artist who launched her debut single “Why” in 2024. These signings demonstrate our ongoing commitment to elevating women’s voices in African music, fostering innovation and diversity.

Thando Makhunga, our Managing Director, emphasises the importance of celebrating and supporting women who are shaping the future of African music. “At Sheer Publishing, we are proud to honor the achievements of women who are not only trailblazing in the industry but also paving the way for future generations of artists,” says Makhunga.

While August is celebrated as Women’s Month, we at Sheer Publishing Africa honor female music professionals throughout the year. Our unwavering support for female talent reinforces our dedication to achieving gender equality in the music industry.
