Empowering Musicians Through Education at the Kasi Worship Workshop

Oct 31, 2023

The South African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) has consistently served as a steadfast pillar of support for musicians, songwriters, and composers, with a rich history of protecting and promoting artists’ rights. SAMRO continues its mission to empower the music community through a range of initiatives, one of which was the highly-anticipated Kasi Worship Workshop held at the Soweto Theatre from October 24th to 27th.

The Kasi Worship Workshop held significant value for up-and-coming musicians, worship leaders, and songwriters in South Africa. It provided a valuable platform for participants to refine their musical skills, acquire new techniques, and forge meaningful connections with fellow musicians and seasoned industry professionals.

Among the pioneers of this workshop was Jross, a client of Sheer Publishing. Furthermore, Sheer Publishing took the stage to delve into the world of music publishing and mechanical rights.

Throughout the workshop, several pivotal topics were addressed, including:

  • Copyright and Royalties: The vital aspects of copyright protection, and how attendees could ensure fair compensation for their creative efforts.
  • Music Licensing Demystified: Unraveling the complexities of this essential subject and equipping participants with the knowledge to understand how their compositions can be used legally and profitably.
  • Registration Simplified: Guidance through the registration process and insights into the significance of SAMRO membership and the step-by-step procedures for successful registration.
  • Interactive Q&A Session: A team of experts was readily available for a comprehensive Q&A session, affording attendees the opportunity to receive personalized advice and answers to their specific inquiries

With the Kasi Worship Workshop behind us, we now look forward to seeing the artists and creators who participated in this enriching experience continue to thrive and make their mark in the vibrant South African music scene.
