Sheer Publishing Africa has again lived up to its great name on the African continent by becoming the first African music publishing company to collect royalties from Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK).
We are proud to announce that we will, for the first time in history, be distributing royalties collected from Kenya to our clients, both local and international. This has been possible because of the hard work from both parties over a long period and immense preparation.
The relationship between Sheer Publishing Africa and MCSK has seen both parties exchanging notes and working together to ensure that this result is achievable. We would like to thank Mr. Maurice Okoth (CEO of MCSK) and his dedicated team for all the hard work and assistance from the initial consultation with our CEO Mr. David Alexander as well as our GM Mr. Karabo Motijoane.
Having represented a number of Kenyan writers globally, this confirms our motto of being “THE FIRST WORLD-CLASS PUBLISHING COMPANY OUT OF AFRICA”
This is only the beginning.
Notes:
Sheer Publishing pays out royalties it has received in the first half of 2013 from the Musical Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) This is from the distribution of radio and TV royalties by MCSK for Logs that were in use from July 2011 to June 2012. Music Copyright Society of Kenya notified its members that the Society shall be distributing royalties for broadcasting class as per the distribution of the society effective 28 Feb 2013 and to run up to 30th April 2013. The list of licenses indicates stations that had remitted royalty fees to MCSK during the period July 2011 to June 2012.
This represents the first time that Sheer Publishing clients are able to receive royalties for TV and Radio airplay in Kenya and marks a first for a South African publisher to receive royalties directly from the Kenyan society.
