Rudo Chasi- born and raised in the landlocked country of Zimbabwe- is an exceptional singer whose vocal prowess knows no bounds. She is the lady behind the voice that gives you goose bumps. Growing up her musical influences have been the likes of Shirley Caesar, CeCe Winans, Whitney Houston. From our African soil her influences include Chiwoniso Maraire, Brenda Fassie and Oliver Mtukudzi to name just a few.
Rudo started singing and writing music at the age of thirteen. She started performing publicly at the Sister’s Open Mic Platform (a Pamberi Trust project) in 2012 at the Book Café, as well as at the Zimbabwe German Society Acoustic Night. In the same year Rudo participated in a theatre production in conjunction with various NGOs campaigning against gender based violence. Her debut album titled “African Sun” was released mid-2014 was a mark of her readiness to spread her wings and fly. She enjoys writing simple songs about life, love, family, home, and gender issues. Most of her work is a social commentary. She has performed at the 2014 Zimbabwe Fashion Weekend whilst exhibiting the Yanai Fashion Brand. The American Embassy Black History Month 2015, The Afro kink, Curls and Fashion Expo, UN International Albinism Day and many other corporate functions and platforms.
In March 2015 Rudo composed a soundtrack titled ‘Tears from Inside’ for a documentary raising awareness on the plight of victims of sexual abuse in Zimbabwe. She’s currently playing a lead role in the making of an African Documentary meant to raise African respect and awareness of intellectual property. The documentary titled Project 37 has 37 individuals from 16 different African countries studying Intellectual Property at Africa University. The documentary is meant to encourage innovation and growth of African Industries through intellectual.
She performed at the official launch held on the 5th of March 2016. Rudo has in more ways than one expressed her passion for the music industry and as such she uses her intellectual property expertise to raise awareness on copyright and business innovation. In partnership with Pamberi Trust, she has hosted open discussions on copyright.
Rudo aspires to share her journey, her lessons and her stories through song at local and international platforms and make a difference through her music.
