Zahara, who after taking 8 awards at the 18th Annual South Africa Music Awards has been dubbed the Adele of South Africa. The singer, born Bulelwa Mkutukana, won all but one of the categories in which she was nominated.
She received two of the awards at a gala event on Sunday night, and at the main event night on Monday she beat off stiff competition for the coveted Album of the Year at an awards ceremony at Sun City.
The songbird also notched up Female Artist of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Best Smooth Urban Music Album, Best Selling Album and Best Collaboration for Incwad’Encane, a duet with George Munetsi.
On Sunday night she won an award for a house version of her hit track Lengoma with DJ Sbu and received another when her hit song Loliwe was named Best-Selling Full Track with more than 30 000 downloads in 2011. Zahara who Sheer Publishing represents under TS Records has truly shown South Africa that dreams can come true.
Another top winner was Mi Casa taking home three awards for Best duo/Group, Best Dance album and the public vote for Record of the year for their smash hit “These streets”, well done to Sheer Publishing client Sipho Mphahlaza for the amazing production on the album.
Congratulation goes out to our other clients for work on the award winning albums for Crighton Goodwill for his work on the Best Pop album for Lloyd Cele. The most contested award for Best alternative went to our very own The Dirty Skirts. Big Nuz took home Best Kwaito album and Elvis Blue with work from our international clients Reverb Music were blessed with Best Adult Contemporary.
