Kenya’s Sauti Sol Get Double Nominations at the 10th Annual Channel O Music Video Awards, few days to headlining at Malawi’s City of Stars Festival (27th – 28th Sept 2013)

Kenyan band Sauti Sol gets two nods at the 10th Annual Channel O Music Video Awards (CHOMVA 2013), Africa’s most prestigious music awards for the hit single “Money Lover”, off the band’s anticipated third album. “Money Lover” has been nominated in the categories of Most Gifted Afro Pop Video and Most Gifted East Africa Video, with the latter category familiar to the band; “I Don’t Wanna be Alone (Shukuru)” by Sauti Sol & AY won Most Gifted East African Video at the 2012 CHOMVA.

Sauti Sol is battling AY, P-Unit, Navio, Radio & Weasel in the class of East Africa’s Most Gifted Video and The Soil, 2Face Idibia, Davido and The Muffinz for the title of Africa’s Most Gifted Afro Pop Video. “This reflects on the outpouring of world-class music videos on the continent over the past year. It’s now up to fans to vote for their favourites in this public-voted event, with more than two months for the continent’s music fans to have their say,” read Channel O’s statement regarding the fiercely fought categories at the awards.

CHOMVA will be held in a live event on Saturday, 30th Nov at Walter Sisulu Square, in Kliptown Soweto, South Africa.

This great news comes just a few weeks to Sauti Sol’s premiere performance in Malawi at the City of Stars (COS) Festival, where they will be the main acts headlining, alongside South Africa’s Tumi Molekane (Tumi & the Volume). COS will feature an eclectic programme of live music, film, theatre, literature, exhibitions and speakers, and will promote Malawian culture and creativity as well as attracting international artists and arts practitioners.
