Final Call for Artists: Sauti za Busara 2015

Jun 11, 2014

Busara plusSauti za Busara is one of Africa’s top music festivals, held every February in Stone Town, Zanzibar. It’s organised by Busara Promotions, non-profit NGO.

Sauti za Busara is hugely popular with local audiences and attracts visitors from all over the world. During 11 years our aim has been to showcase great and diverse music from the African Continent and diaspora. From 2015, the programme will also include music from the Arab World and Indian Ocean.

For further information on Sauti za Busara including photo galleries, video highlights, media coverage and more, see www.busaramusic.org

For festival artists, we pay a modest performance fee and cover all local expenses in Zanzibar, including accommodation, transport, visa, food and incidentals. Artists from outside the region may be required to assist in finding their own travel sponsors.

When selecting artists, we give priority to:

East African music
Music from African Continent and diaspora, Arab World and Indian Ocean
Artistic quality
Gender balance
Sounds of Wisdom (eg. music with a message)
Originality, creativity and innovation
Young and emerging talents
Musical diversity (“traditional” and electric, rural and urban)
Music with cultural identity
Less-exposed or marginalised artists
Big name artists to attract wider audiences

The final date for receipt of application forms is 31st July 2014
