Mahalia Buchanan began her professional journey at the age of 13. Entering the South African Music Industry, serving and sharing the stage with the established South African Artists like: Benjamin Dube, Sibongile Khumalo and Judith Sephuma, just to name a few. However her career blossomed immensely when she joined the internationally renowned Joyous Celebration as singer and songwriter. As pivotal member of Joyous and in her pioneering solo career that has followed, she has circumnavigated the globe, performing in front of millions of people across the Africa, Europe and USA.
Her reputation as an authentic and annointed vocalist has been her sell out shows in some part of the World’s iconic cities and earned her invitations to grace the stage with Grammy Award winning Gospel mogul Donny McClurkin. Not only does she shine through music but Mahalia has channelled her creative pursuits into one of South Africa’s most popular talk Show ‘Destiny” which she conceptualised, co-produces and hosts. Destiny plays on channel 331 (1 Gospel) every Monday at 19h00.
Her Unique persona – a mix of infectious optimism, bold confidence and genuine humility has led her to become a sought after MC at swathe of high profile events where guests of honour have included the President of South Africa and the Royal house in the Kingdom of Swaziland. Through her music, television and in-person appearances she has garned an ever growing audience that cuts through variety of ethnic groups within Africa and the entire world.
Driven by deep conviction to love and serve others, she co-founded non-profit organisation that promotes the power of education to help young people in believing themselves and their talents to change the world for the better. She has also gracefully won the Best New Comer at the Prestigious Crown Gospel Awards 2015, she has also been nominated at the SAMA Awards – and this all from her latest album titled ‘Redeemed to Worship’.
