South African Music Awards grace us once again

The Highly anticipated 2015 South African Music Awards are finally here. The highly sought after award is one that all South African Musicians and Artists alike dream of having had due to its honorable and prestige nature. This years SAMA’s bring along with it new faces, a fresh new outlook on the countries music and a handful of new music Legends. Taking place on the 19th of April at Suncity, this years award show is going to have an unforgettable effect on all those who will apart of this historic event.

SAMAXXI

Hip Hop seems to have dominated the nominations with its performers accounting for a staggering 8 out of 28 category. Sheer Publishing very own Cassper Nyovest has earned himself a total of 5 nominations for this years SAMA’s. These include “Album of the Year”, “Male Artist of the Year”, “and New Comer of the Year “,” Best Rap Album and Best Collaboration”. The release of “Tsholofelo”, Cassper recently cleaned out the Metro Awards held in Durban with a total of 5 Awards won. Songs like “Doc Shebeleza and Phumakim” are amongst the hits that have placed him in a league of his own. It doesn’t seem like anyone is getting in the way of Cassper’s winning streak!

Amongst the nominations is Dr Doctor’s Jeremy Loops. Jeremy Loops “Trading Change” scored him a “Newcomer of the Year” nomination. As a new folk musician, Jeremy is already breaking strides, pushing the folk genre forward with a unique approach to his compositions. We hope his approach is one strong enough to win him the awards as he has worthy competition in the category.
Continuing in the Dr Doctor streak is “Taxi Violence” has been nominated for the “Best Rock Album” category. “Tenfold” is Taxi Violence’s 2014 album release, which was also released on vinyl. Tenfold house’s hit “Beaten by the Gun”, a song which talks of ones existence through life with a retrospective outlook. Reburth’s latest release “Majestic” is what earned them a nomination at this years SAMA’s. A rock album to rival most if not all on the world stage, Reburth has created a everlasting LP of music. We wish Taxi Violence and Reburth all the best!

On the other side of the genre spectrum is Kelly Khumalo and Max Hoba. They were nominated for “Best African Adult Album” for their respective album “Back to my roots” and “Travelling Man”. This is Max Hoba’s first SAMA nomination as was seen in his joyful mood on the Nomination Announcement After Party. Max Hoba’s music is rooted in deep, soulful and majestic compositions coupled with his warm and melodic voice. This nomination is truly a milestone for Max’s career. We hope both of these artists/composers come out on top.

Kyle Shepherd has graced the nomination list yet again, this time for his latest release “Dream State”. “There’s a palpable connectedness they share as players, a connection that also touches attuned audiences at their live performances too” says Percy Mabandu. We trust and believe this “Dream state” will transcend him to the SAMA’s book of winners.

Wouter Kellerman’s “Winds of Samsara” has already earned him a Grammy Award and now possibly a South African Music Award. This truly resplendent project features a collaboration of the world’s most gifted musicians in an effort to create an unforgettable experience for music listeners. Wouter Kellerman has earned himself a nomination for “Best Producer of the Year”. May the winds blow him to yet another award for his timeless creation.

Chris Mulder better known as Chris Chameleon is yet another Sheer Publishing Client nominated for an award at this years SAMA’s. Chris Chameleon, a well-seasoned composer with hits like Staan by my, Kulkuns, Apie and many more has showcased his music to word. Chris’s “Beste Kontemporere Musiek Album” nomination comes from his latest album, “Posduif”. This 2014 release graced music lovers globally, crossing the boundaries of language and color to reach and inspire fans around the world. We hope Chris all the best.

A seasoned veteran to music, Lira has secured herself yet another nomination for “Best Live DVD” at this years SAMA awards. With a career that stretched over international boarder’s, Lira has cemented her place through the hands of time as a true artist. With hit songs such as “Feel Good” and “Soul in Mind”, Lira has won the hearts of music lovers across the globe and continues to do endlessly. With shows across all walks of life and culture, this all-encompassing DVD showcase of Lira in her element and how this is received and translates by her fans. We hope this truly iconic figure steals the limelight yet again.

Black Carrots very own Simphiwe Dana has locked in 2 nominations, namely “Female Artist of the Year” and “Best African Adult Album”. Rooted in very cultural ideologies, Simphiwe tells the story of her surrounding, her struggle, her joy, her pain and her laughter in her music. The message in Simphiwe’s music is received, understood and felt by all those who have experienced and overcome adversity to stand tall despite their flaws. Her latest release Fireband is what earned her these two esteemed nominations.

Its been an unforgettable year for Hip Hop music is SA. With the emergence of artist like Reason, Cassper Nyovest and Duncan just to mention a few, the game has changed and the throne is for the taking. Rarely do we take time to mentions the influential individuals behind the scenes. Composer Sthembiso “Instro” Herimbi has played an invaluable role to the sonic creation of Reason’s “Audio High Definition”. Having produced a good portion of the album, Instro is part the team of the people who make take the music to the next level. So a big congrats to “Sthembiso” for collectively earning himself a nomination for “Best Rap Album”.

SA saw a number of its hit singles remixed into even bigger singles. Amongst the Nominations for “Remix of the Year” is Sheer Publishing very own, Riky Rick for his hit single “Amantombazane” and the dynamic duo Robbie Malinga and Moalefa Thebe for the their remix of Zahara’s “Indlela Yam” with Dj Sbu. Amongst the special award categories are the “best Selling Mobile Music Download” and the SAMPRA “Highest Airplay of the Year” Award to be announced the awards. We are all in for a truly jam packed ceremony on the 19th of April.
