Job description

Sheer is looking for a Copyright Administrator to join our Copyright & Administration team. Reporting to the General Manager, you will be a key member of our team auditing registrations, matching unclaimed works, and researching registration statuses.

What you’ll do: 

  • Register catalogue agreements with our society partners based on priority
  • Assist with catalogue audits, verifying that works registrations are accurate and complete, and coordinating with the Copyright Team to resolve inaccurate, incomplete, and missing registrations
  • Amend and update catalog information as requested to ensure accuracy and compliance with defined standards
  • Create Letters of Direction (LODs) for Priority Clients
  • Assist with Counterclaims at societies
  • Work with the Copyright Team to establish, test, and execute Agreements for newly onboarded CMOs, and resolve any Society issues that negatively impact catalog delivery and ingestion
  • Support internal and external rights holders and partners (PROs, DSPs, etc.) to ensure that rights-related issues are resolved quickly
  • Support the processing of various client document submissions including setlists, cue sheets, etc.
  • Collaborate with the licensing, royalties, business affairs and client services teams to provide superior service to internal and external stakeholders
  • Comply with company and industry standards and best practices
  • Contribute to the documentation of departmental workflows, business processes, diagrams, user guides, and SOP
  • Support various administrative tasks as requested
  • Share knowledge and promote the professional growth of team members through collaboration and mentorship
  • Registration Auditing
  • Research registration statuses for specific works and catalogs at various international pay sources
  • Communicate with pay source and publisher representatives to resolve various issues such as conflicts, duplicates, etc.
  • Work with the Client Services team to track research results
  • Manually register priority works at mechanical societies
  • Unclaimed Works Matching
  • Process unclaimed works reports from domestic and international affiliates
  • Identify and validate potential claims within the Sheer and Downtown catalogs
  • Work with the Income Tracking team to submit claims and track missing/unclaimed royalties

After 3 months you’ll have:

  • In-depth understanding of the global music publishing landscape
  • Experience working with proprietary tools as well as industry standards
  • Autonomy in your workflow to most effectively complete your responsibilities, with support from an experienced and helpful team

You are/have:

  • A critical-thinking problem-solver with a passion for publishing administration and data
  • Experience at a music publishing company (copyright/admin department preferred)
  • Comfortable working with large sets of data

You are/have: 

  • Prior experience working at a music publishing company (copyright/admin department) or a music business degree
  • Basic knowledge of at least one Performing Rights Organization (PRO) and/or Collective Management Organization (CMO)
  • Skilled with Excel or Google Sheets
  • A critical thinking problem-solver with a tenacious focus on accuracy and precision
  • You have a passion for music and a desire to continuously learn about global copyright and publishing administration
  • A self-starter that enjoys seeking solutions and sponsoring initiatives
  • Must be proactive in identifying, solving, and mitigating process, communication, and information issues and risks
  • Must be proactively communicative and possess strong verbal and written communication skills in English

We’d prefer it if you have:

  • Fluency in English and at least one African language (French would be a bonus)
  • Experience working with Vistex Music Maestro Rights Administration Platform
  • Experience working with Airtable
  • Experience with music data and music data standards (DDEX, CWR)
