The African Choir 1891 Re-Imagined Closes 12 November in Cape Town

Nov 6, 2017

For a limited time the African Choir Re-Imagined is on at the Iziko South African National Gallery, in Cape Town until Sunday 12 November, 2017.

This contemporary sound-image installation based on the African Choir’s first tour to Victorian England in 1891 is moving to Johannesburg, where it will open in the new year.

Seen for the first time in South Africa, the installation presents five songs recreated by Philip Miller and Thuthuka Sibisi, from an original 19th century concert programme, along with 20 photographic portraits of the choir members – rediscovered by Autograph ABP at the Hulton Archive in London after 125 years.

Listen to the music, buy the CD or download at CD Baby, Amazon and iTunes.
